Does Day Theming Work?

I’m not sure, but I’m giving it a go.

Whenever I look at improving my productivity, ‘Day Theming’ floats up as a potential solution. Day Theming is a productivity tool where each day of the week has the same type of activity (marketing) or task (emails)—this way, you do less task shifting and can achieve flow.

I’ve tried it before, but it wouldn’t stick. It was too complicated to manage.

What’s Changed?

The past two months have been hectic, and my to-do list has often overwhelmed me. To the point, it’s almost become a scary character in the story of my life.

I knew I needed to take control this month, so I turned it into a game. I watched Ali Abdaal, a Productivity YouTuber I follow. (Link below.) He shared that we can’t keep motivated if we’re not enjoying what we’re doing. This struck a cord in me. I like my job, and I like preparing for my job, but sometimes when I have a lot on that, I get overwhelmed and stressed.

Gamification of the dreaded to-do list

Ali calls his one critical activity an adventure. I’ve taken this concept and added more gamification to how I think about my tasks.

I’m now calling my tasks quests.
