How to improve your emotional wellbeing
Track what matters
I have been trying to track my mental health daily. One of the areas I am aiming to be more aware of and in control of is my emotional wellbeing. Part of the process of checking in is to stretch my self-awareness of my emotional wellbeing, and part of it is to be more intentional about my emotions.
Checking in with myself
I don’t need my emotions to be positive all the time. That isn’t what this is about. Instead, it’s about knowing what I am feeling and why. If my emotional response is reasonable and I can work through it, that’s fine. If it’s controlling me or out of control, that is what I need to manage.
I rarely have what I would consider emotional outbursts, but I do feel sad or angry at times. I am trying to connect with myself on why I am experiencing those feelings. If I can identify the root cause, I can better understand why I feel that way.
Most days, we are busy just dealing with life. We have things we have to do, want, and need to do. Balancing them all and then getting through them all is not always possible. With this general business of life, we don’t have many opportunities to check-in and understand what we are feeling.
