I Failed to Achieve My Goal

But I did succeed in creating the practice

Last night, I reviewed my goals for this year. I was feeling frustrated because I have been in the hospital since the beginning of the week.

It's not the best place to spend Christmas day, but hey, ho, what can you do? Honestly, it wasn’t the worst Christmas I’ve had. My worst was when I first arrived in Singapore. I didn’t know anyone and spent the day alone. This Christmas was a doddle compared to that one.

I didn't achieve my big hairy goal, and that’s okay. The whole point of a big, hairy goal is that it’s the destination, and it might be one you never achieve. It’s not about achievement. It’s about taking action and effort.

But Here’s Where I Succeeded.

Below my big hairy goal I had a set of practices I believed would help move me towards my goal. And that is where I saw achievement. I have written or edited one of my top three projects most days this year.

As I kept reading my notes, there were six additional goals, and on each of those, I may not be able to tick off the goal itself, but I am doing the steps to achieve almost all of them.

I Keep Starting
