I generally only watch movies my 15 year old son asks me to watch with him. He vets them and knows which ones I'm likely to say yes to. Not liking a movie because it doesn't speak to you is an often discussed fact in my house. We all watch what we like and then try (desperately) to find movies we can all watch. Getting cranky because someone doesn't like your favourite movie isn't allowed in in our house. Discussion over why you personally like, dislike a movie is enjoyable.
