Managing Emotions Through Verbal Expression
When fudge nuggets just won't cut it.
When angry, count to ten before you speak; if very angry, a hundred. THOMAS JEFFERSON
When angry, count to ten before you speak; if very angry, swear. MARK TWAIN
Currently, I'm reading Beyond Reason: Using Emotions as You Negotiate. It is a book about how emotions impact the negotiation process. These quotes made me laugh. Sometimes when feeling overwhelms me, a good bout of swearing can help relieve the tension. I do not believe in swearing at people but more a general download of cursing at my feet. Or if alone, then yelling all the naughty words at your computer doesn't hurt anyone. Just make sure you're on mute.
Cursing allows me to express my emotions. When I swear, it helps me to send that energy outward. Acknowledging our feelings gives us space to feel and then release. Then we can move forward.
There is scientific evidence that swearing helps manage pain and makes you more intelligent. (Links below.) I write because writing makes me happy. I love using words to express my feelings and have a good vocabulary. If I'm reading something and come across an unfamiliar word, I will do a quick Google to help me further understand it.
