Recently I removed the shortcut to FB from my phone. I also left a FB chat group. I did both in response to my mental health. I wasn’t being bullied, and the group was generally a very supportive one. Still, it was difficult for me because one of the women had flown home to Melbourne. I was feeling particularly raw about it at the time, so I removed myself from the conversation and from FB as well.

Interestingly I still get the notifications on FB, but I rarely feel the need to click on them. Now for the productive side of the equation.

With FB not being on my phone, I am less distracted by it. I often open my phone, do something like order groceries, send an email or pay my power bill, and get distracted by FB before doing these things. This leads to an unproductive 10 to 30 minutes, and worse, I forget why I signed up in the first place!

Having been happy with the results from just removing the shortcut to one distraction has motivated me to do more of that. The apps are available should I be somewhere and I’m bored, but the quick I’ll just pop on here has been broken.

This means when I check my phone, I am focused on what I need to achieve and not waylaid by a quick fix. The second benefit is…
