Redundancy can light a fire in your belly!

Two weeks before Christmas, my husband got the letter giving him two months notice.

Now Christmas is stressful enough but a redundancy at Christmas, in a Pandemic when you live in a foreign company where you can only stay as long as you have a job. With your hometown not accepting its own nationals, I must say I was feeling the pressure.

On the plus side, my job is flexible, and I can work anywhere. I can move pretty quickly and set up anywhere with wifi. I have enough time to work out schooling with two months notice — although that is not perfect as school doesn’t finish till June for both kids.

For my husband, this was somewhat of a shock and a slap in the face. However, he picked himself up the next morning and started reaching out to his network.

Within a week, he’d had several calls lined up with senior management, mostly through this word of mouth network. We worked together on updating his CV. Within a couple of day’s, he had three different CV’s prepared and ready for deployment, depending on what the company was doing.

He was very humbled by the sheer number of meetings he had lined up in such a short time. The positive responses he has had from those meetings — helped him remain optimistic in what was a stressful time for both of us.
