Six Books I Didn't Rate as Life-changing

But they changed my life anyway

As I've shared, I have cultivated the daily habit of reading nonfiction for thirty minutes. I also capture quotes and notes at the same time. Once I'm finished with the book, I give it a rating of one through five or life-changing.

I recently shared an essay about my eight life-changing books. I base my life-changing rating on the following criteria.

  • I talk about them
  • It challenges my thinking
  • My behaviour changes
  • It becomes a guide for my life

One fault in my system is that I base my rating on whether I liked the book. Much of that concerns the connection I make to the writer. Did I like their voice and connect with them, not their ideas but the insights into who they are based on their writing?

This brings me to several books I rated as fours because I didn't connect with the author. But based on the impact, I have changed after reading this book.

Reviewing the habits or practices I have adopted, I now have a few more books that should be at least five, and one or two fives should be fours.
