It’s about getting better at your chosen art form. To improve, we must push ourselves out of our comfort zones. We need to try different formats, styles and challenge the rules. I have been thinking about what are the creative risks I can take with my writing.

How do I take risks in writing?

To me, it means getting feedback and trying to improve.

I have to push myself to try things differently and switch things up. When we do this, the chances are that what we are producing is not good. Or what we try doesn’t work out the way we want. Failure can be frustrating but hopefully helpful in the longer term.

We do our most growing and learning when we are uncomfortable. When we feel uncomfortable, we are using new muscles or learning new techniques.

Challenging ourselves is good. After a period of learning, we should also spend some time absorbing our lessons.

It is ok to cruise along for a while before you try something new.

What I am going to try

This year, I am going to try and do some new activities around my writing.

I have a routine where I write five hundred words on a topic within thirty minutes.
